At the last Messy Church
On Saturday 26th November we celebrated Christmas! After making lots of different Christmas crafts, we all gathered together to hear the Christmas story again, and to build up a picture of the stable in Bethlehem with the visitors who brought gifts for the baby. We talked about the presents we receive and give at Christmas. God’s present to us is the baby Jesus, and he sent Jesus because he loved the world so much. Jesus is the best present we could have because it is a present that lasts for ever – Jesus grew up to be our Saviour, he died and rose again, and now he is our friend for ever!
We all look forward to giving and receiving presents at Christmas which show our love for one another. They don’t have to be expensive presents – something we make ourselves is lovely – as long as we give and receive them with love.
After the story and some great songs we all enjoyed a special Messy Church Christmas Dinner, with delicious gammon and roast vegetables, or sausages in rolls and lots of extra bits and pieces, followed by the usual cakes, some of which looked very Christmassy!
The date for the next Messy Church is 28th January, and we look forward to welcoming people back then. If you haven’t been before, do come and try it!
You don’t need a special invitation to come along, although if you’re a child you’ll need an adult, and if you’re an adult you’ll need a child!
From 4 to 5pm there will be lots of things to make and take home. There are games to play, and there’s a space for people who want to run around, and a quiet area with lego and board games. Babies and toddlers can have fun too – there’s a corner with a mat and toys. They might find an hour a long time, so come a bit later, say about 4.30.
At 5 o’clock we all join together for songs and the story. Then we eat a lovely tea together, followed by the usual cakes, including the birthday cake for those with birthdays in December and January. We look forward to seeing you there! Don’t miss it!
All the dates for next year are on a fridge magnet which you can pick up at the January Messy Church.
